Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)
As an extensively trained trauma therapist and EMDR certified therapist through the International Association for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDRIA), I offer comprehensive services for people experiencing issues associated with traumatic life events. The word trauma has been widely used to refer to any event or experience that has been damaging to your psychological well-being and health. Whether you have experienced a Big T Trauma (single or multiple traumatic events leading to symptoms often associated with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder such as sexual or physical assault, serious injuries, serious accidents, birth trauma, or near-death experiences) or Little T Trauma (practically any other adverse life event), Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) can help.
EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that has proven to be highly effective in the treatment of trauma. Often, the incomplete processing of traumatic events, emotions, and memories prevents new connections, learning, and adaptive information processing which can help resolve trauma. Traumatic memories contain associated thoughts, beliefs, emotions, physical sensations, and body memories that occurred at the time of the event and are stored in the brain and the body. When a person is triggered, elements of the associated memory are experienced and create distress. EMDR enables people to heal from the symptoms and sensations of trauma through memory reprocessing using bilateral stimulation (eye movements, taps, or sounds). Reprocessing with bilateral stimulation enables disturbing memories, thoughts, and associated processes to be neutralized so that you can move forward with your life and make new meaning of traumatic life experiences.
